Prostate Cancer

Treatment

Prostate cancer is most often contained locally within the prostate. The "Gold Standard" treatment for localized prostate cancer is radical prostatectomy.  Removing the entire prostate and any local surrounding cancer, is a surgeon's primary goal. The operation's most common complications are impotence and incontinence, caused by damage to the nerves around the prostate.

Urologists developed nerve-sparing surgical techniques to preserve a man's potency. While this technique increase chances for maintaining function, its effectiveness ranges from 11% to 86%, depending on the surgical skill and patient's age.*  A surgeon's standards and practice frequency are important to accepted outcomes.

Our CaverMap technology helps surgeons improve their diagnosis standards. When CaverMap is effectively utilize, it supports navigation around vital nerve bundles, sparing them damage. The CaverMap Surgical Aid  provides a nerve performance measured analysis.  It assists the surgeon in locating and mapping the prostate surrounding cavernous nerves, which conduct  erectile function.* When a surgeon truly diagnoses where the working nerves are, they are better able to decide where to cut and keep the nerves intact.

After the prostate is removed, the CaverMap Surgical Aid allows surgeons to measure and confirm nerve function for immediate feedback on likely outcomes and additional available therapies.

Research

A recent multi-center research study at major cancer centers evaluated the CaverMap Surgical Aid for the past 4 years and treated 61 patients.  A full 92% of the men who had normal erectile function before surgery,  continued to have erections in the measured year after surgery. This represents a dramatic improvement over previous unaided radical prostatectomy surgical results, which were approximately 30 percent.*

Indications and Availabilities

Men who have localized prostate cancer and normal erectile function may benefit from radical prostatectomy surgery with the CaverMap Surgical Aid. Prostate cancer patients should speak with their urologist to determine if the CaverMap Surgical Aid could be of benefit to them.  CaverMap is now commercially available nationwide at many leading prostate cancer treatment centers.
